WKKF: Powering the Collective is a statewide research and leadership initiative advancing food sovereignty and land justice for underrepresented farmers in Michigan. Led by the Multicultural Food Sovereignty Network, the project centers the lived experiences of marginalized farmers through surveys, focus groups, and community forums to identify systemic barriers, evaluate existing support systems, and document historical inequities in agriculture. The initiative will produce actionable policy recommendations and data-driven strategies to strengthen equitable access to land, resources, and markets—helping build a more resilient, just, and inclusive food system for Michigan communities.

The Food Sovereignty Initiative (FSI) aims to transform the food landscape in Flint by empowering Black and People of Color farmers and strengthening community food systems. By building upon existing initiatives, FSI will address food insecurity, improve food access, and foster economic opportunity. This project will bolster the Flint & Genesee Food Policy Council by providing staff support, hosting the Flint Regional Food Summit, and investing in urban gardens. It will also enhance the Flint Eats App to include a statewide-mapping system for community gardens and farms. Finally, it will scale up the MFSN's work to support farmers through operational funding and capacity building.
